The curriculum at The Younity School is developed using the relevant Queensland and National requirements and incorporates opportunities to develop 21st Century Skills, Employability Skills and Global Citizenship.

The curriculum is designed and aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Students will be taught English and Mathematics suitable to their own educational needs. Students will also be taught Science, HPE, HASS, The Arts and Technologies.

The curriculum will support disengaged learners to be successful and support students in their own learning. The curriculum will be delivered by passionate teachers and assessment will be modified to suit the needs of each learner.

‍

They help everything from creating s sense of belonging to the student group, to not having to decide what to wear when you get up in the morning. But we also know that variety is the spice of life!

‍

At The Younity School students will be provided a two Younity School shirts and a hat that must be warn every day.  The shirts will be available in a choice of colour and design so students can select their preference.

‍

We also appreciate that some students will work better in sensory supported fabrics and designs, so we will support you to find sensory friendly alternatives if required (bamboo socks rock!)

‍

Students must also wear closed shoes and appropriate-length black or blue trousers, shorts, or skirts.

‍

We will also allow for some flexibility in individual styling of hair and jewellery.

At The Younity School, we aim to be a centre of excellence in special assistance education by delivering programs that support students to build their self-regulatory capacities, develop a sense of relatedness and belonging at school, and integrate wellbeing principles that nurture growth and identify strengths.

Drawing on evidence-based models, such as the Berry Street Education Model, restorative approaches and middle schooling, our classrooms nurture student wellbeing and enhance their willingness to engage at school, harnessing their strengths for effective learning and future pathways.  Classes will be capped at 15 students per class in years 7-9. Years 5-6 to follow!

Breakfast is important! It gives students a kick-start in the morning, helping them to concentrate and connect to the day. To facilitate this, a free self-service breakfast bar will be available for students in the mornings.

We are also hoping to provide lunches, possibly for a small fee. More work is being done on this so stay tuned!

At The Younity School, we recognise the middle school years as one of the most important steps in a young person’s journey to meaningful, lifelong engagement with learning.

Middle schooling is an intentional approach to teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the full range of needs, interests and achievements of middle years students in formal and informal schooling contexts. Informed by‘ Adolescents Success’ middle schooling has a clear philosophy relevant to the context of the need of the students and a range of  practices to engage young adolescents in relevant, meaningful and challenging learning, along with organisational initiatives to facilitate their implementation, such as:

The Younity School understands that we operate in a world that is turning  truly digital, and that we have responsibility for giving our students, our teachers and those who support them the digital skills they need for today and in the future. All curriculum areas will include opportunities for improving digital literacy and efficiency of our students and our teams.

The Younity School will provide students with laptops and other ICT learning tools and materials to use in the classroom. We will also supply all stationary supplies.

‍

Students are not to bring their own ICT equipment.
